Kelowna Custom Kitchen Renovation

Natalie Fuglestveit Interior Design is SO excited to share this custom kitchen renovation design with you from our Okanagan lakehouse project!  A project we loved working on with some amazing clients.

To begin with, we have to share that this project was designed with much thoughtfulness, purpose, & intent.  EVERY detail was thoughtfully considered in this design including every filler, column, product selection, measurement, electrical outlets, lighting, functional usage, flow, spatial organization, & storage consideration.  These are not just a bunch or pretty pictures.  These photos are a result of a labour of love.

The design planning process took almost a year and was all completed and thoroughly reviewed multiple times prior to the construction even starting.  These are not just a bunch of pretty pictures…. :-).

The existing kitchen was 90’s dated and had a very ‘unique’ space plan that was not overly functional. There was a lot of wasted space on one end of the kitchen area.

We removed the kitchen/dining room wall, turned some closets into a Butler’s Pantry, and had to expand the existing kitchen to capitalize on the space gained/lost and ensure it everything felt balanced & was functional.

The end design goal was this modern & fresh kitchen design that is a perfect for lakefront living, entertaining, and daily family life.

With existing wall restrictions, we had to take into consider traffic flow and ensure that flow and movement around the kitchen & island made sense.

In order to create visual separation within the kitchen, we tied-in beautiful white oak cabinetry that we also used in other areas of the home.  The eating bar was designed to sit a total of 5 people and has ample hidden storage below in the cabinetry with push-release hardware.

This kitchen was designed to have beautiful sight lines and multiple zones.  These zones included 3x prep zones, a large cooking zone, eating zone, & of course a central cleaning zone with 2 beautiful integrated Meile dishwashers.  The Butler’s Pantry had it’s own purpose that that will be shared in another upcoming blog!

The cooking zone features a custom quartz cladded hood fan with a Vent-A-Hood liner and 48″ Wolf gas range.  We decided to flank the hood fan with two venting windows on either side & enclose it with MDF columns & bulkhead.  This enclosed area has a gorgeous Walker Zanger Tangent Vector Calacata marble wall tile & beautiful Brizo pot filler in Luxe Gold finish.

The lovely herringbone hardwood is Vintage Hardwood Old Oak Charactet Fumed.  This hardwood is carried throughout most of the main floor and provides a gorgeous pattern throughout the home.

This image shows the Butler’s Pantry area off the main kitchen that houses a Meile built-in coffee machine, ice fridge, prep-sink area, and open shelving (perfect place for baking prep, morning coffees, & keeping a mess if required:-).

We carried a beautiful 3″ profile quartz waterfall detail throughout the island in a Caesarstone Calacatta Nuvo quartz.

The kitchen island includes a 24″ undercounter Subzero wine cooler, 24″ Meile fully integrated dishwasher, 36″ bank of drawers at kitchen sink, another 24″ Meile fully integrated dishwasher, and a microwave drawer w/ drawer below.

Since we were working with a home built in 1981, we had a 8′-0″ ceiling height restriction.  We wanted to use the kitchen/powder room wall to house the fully-integrated Meile fridge & freezer.  The top two cabinets above the fridge/freezer are push-release & perfect for storing cookie sheets & deep trays.

I would probably have to write for hours if I actually walked you through every thought process applied to this kitchen design.   Instead, we hoped you enjoyed some beautiful photos of this dream Kelowna kitchen renovation.

We would like to thank all the wonderful Kelowna trades & Chriscan for their hard work on executing our design.
