Enhancing this Okotoks family room was a fun project to work on. At Natalie Fuglestveit Interior Design, we enjoy going into people’s homes and figuring out what we can do to enhance the space, while ensuring we meet the clients needs. Of course there is WAY more design programming and planning that goes into it, however I am NOT going to bore you with those extensive details.
This Okotoks, AB family room design renovation turned out fantastic. Here is a photo of the finished room:
I can say that it turned out fantastic because here is the before photo of this wall. It was a plain long wall with a lonely firebox just floating in the middle of it. So we addressed the issue without making any structural changes.
NFID’s Design Solutions to the LONG wall problem:
- Depth: We need to add some depth and layering to this wall and make it a focal point.
- Texture: Too much drywall is never a good thing. So, grasscloths wallcoverings, installed by Drop Wallcoverings , helped us add some visual interest.
- Millwork Design: Simple square MDF panel detail to the fireplace to add sophistication, detail, and lightens up the space. Thank you Denca! This was color matched perfectly to the existing trim color.
- Fireplace Surround: Keeping things simple, clean, and neutral, we decided a concrete surround was the way to go! Sculptural Designs did a fantastic job on this surround.
- Art: This art was custom framed to be appropriately scaled and simplistic in color and print. It added just enough detail without taking away from the fireplace.
- Accent Lighting: To reduce ALOT of patching and issues running wires, we added these wireless controlled sconces with some pretty Pottery Barn fixtures. These sconces and a new floor lamp helped us layer our accent lighting options in the room.
- New Furniture + Custom Pillows: We had these custom walnut coffee tables made by Oliver Apt to compliment the length of our existing sofa + of course we need new custom pillows by NFID with subtle texture & pattern to brighten up the space.
