Urban Boho Guest Room
At Natalie Fuglestveit Interior Design we love to design bedrooms! We mainly love how we can uniquely design and personalize each space to meet our clients needs. We enjoy coming up with new ideas to layer textures, fabrics patterns, and subtle details. Here are three ways we added a cozy, comfortable, organic, west coast modern touch to this ‘Urban Boho’ guest room:
1) SPACE PLANNING:
We took this tiny bedroom space, and instead of capitalizing on floor space, we decided that maximizing the bed size was the most important thing to do. We want these guest to feel most comfortable when lounging & sleeping! Since we could not center the bed in the room, we situated the West Elm Mid-Century White Double Bed off the rear wall 12″. This allowed for just enough space to walk along the one side to make the bed and allow for the bedding to hang properly. It also allowed us to include a small side table on one side without obstructing the closet doors. We put the headboard against the opposite wall of the door, so that the beautiful bed was the first thing you see when you enter the room.
At Natalie Fuglestveit Interior Design, we love colour, however we also love colour cohesiveness! For this project, we kept everything in this room white, ivory, dove grey, soft grey and for an accent colour we included a hit of teal. This allowed the guest room to remain tranquil and inviting.
3) TACTILE ELEMENTS:
This room is layered with texture, visual patterns, various fabrics, and materials.
You can never have too many pillows on a guest room bed! It is appropriate to have low standard pillows & high standard pillows for guest to select from to sleep on. I usually place the low standard pillows at the back of the bed in pillowcases. I place the high standard pillows in front of the low standard pillows. The front high standard pillows should be in shams covers that match the duvet cover. These 4 pillows will set the backdrop for the decorative pillows (WHICH DO HAVE A PURPOSE for propping up your guests when reading and watching Netflix:-).
On this bed, we used 100% organic cotton West Elm Hand Drawn Stripe sheet set with a 100% linen dove grey duvet cover & shams. We used white West Elm Mongolian Lamb Stone White mohair decorative pillows with smaller shell decor pillows in front. The custom Ikat pattern drapery added a great modern boho feel to the space.
