Living Room Renovation

Natalie Fuglestveit Interior Design loved working with these clients on updating their home. We especially enjoyed working on this living room renovation. We know every designer says that there clients are the best:-), however these clients were truly wonderful to work with!

We must include in this blog that we value their trust in us throughout the renovation process. It was our pleasure that we were able to work with them to transform their home to be more functional and in line with their style. We understand it is a big investment of time and money, however the results are very worthwhile in the end.

Sometimes it is difficult to see through 20 year-old interior trends (like the ever-so famous golden oak period). Often clients don’t know where to start and they think that everything should just be gutted. That isn’t entirely true. We were able to work with existing millwork in this renovation. We cleaned up the valance, fillers, replaced cabinet doors with a 2.5″ shaker stile, replace the hardware with some stunning Emtek Freestone pulls in polished chrome, & sprayed everything out Benjamin Moore Blue Note 2129-30…. TADA… well it REALLY ISN’T that easy! There is always a lot of labour and many trades that goes into this work. We also had to weigh out the cost to see if it is worthwhile to keep the existing bookshelves on either side of the fireplace. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense (time-wise or cost) to restore existing millwork. On this project we went with it!

The After Photo

As you can see some other major changes between the before & after photo include; new firebox, fireplace tile surround, custom-quartz mantel design, drywall repair, paint & more…

In this living room renovation, one of our favourite elements is the fireplace. We loved designing the stone fireplace using Caesarstone Rugged Concrete 4033 quartz for the mantel. The soft matte grey stone against the stunning New Ravenna Studio Line Chevron WCCHEV-CA Calacatta Radiance Honed tile surround. New Revenna’s Studio Line is pretty much to die for!

We also switched out our firebox to include a more updated rectangular fireplace. This simplistic firebox helped clean up the lines on the fireplace design (& works beautifully too).

With the renovation all completed, it was important that our very tactile clients loved lounging in this living room with their family!

All furniture was custom-made to meet their needs and covered with beautiful soft high-performance fabrics.

Additionally, we stylized the bookshelves with some new accessories mixed in with their family treasures and photos. NFID also added some great additional lighting & a soft and luxurious area rug to make everything feel cozy at night.

To conclude, working on this living room renovation was a joy! We hope that many memories, parties, and family events happen in this living room and that it gets well used!!!
