Laundry in the Woods – Canmore Renovation

Have you ever dreamed about a beautiful laundry room located in one of the most beautiful settings in Alberta… the Rocky Mountains.  We wanted to create the most spectacular and tranquil laundry room for the clients to love to use on a daily basis.  This Canmore renovation was a fantastic renovation project that involved revising an outdoor sunroom to a large laundry room.  But wait… then we turn the old laundry room into a beautiful powder room AND we turned the old powder room to an extension of a new walk-in-closet (future blogs to come:-).

This Canmore renovation was all about beautiful details and quality craftsmanship!  New windows were added to the master bedroom and the laundry room.  We had the privilege to work with Triangle Enterprises Ltd. on this project, who are known for their acute attention to detail and quality craftsmanship, and fantastic customer-service.This laundry room was originally an exterior enclosed sunroom.  We decided to utilize the space so that we could add more functional use to the home for this growing family.
The millwork and interior selection palette had to tie into the remainder of the house to ensure that all spaces felt cohesive and uniform.  We wanted to bring in natural wood elements such as the black walnut custom made butcher block countertops and live edge bench top slab.

We designed the backsplash to incorporate a walnut picture rail ledge.  This allowed us to use a beautiful 8″ x 8″ concrete tile on the wall to act as a splash as well as bring some fun pattern into the space.  The ledge is perfect for displaying family artwork and photographs.

It was important to ensure that the space was durable and would wear well.  We designed a laundry bin shelf out of stainless steel so that the clients don’t have to worry about scratching any millwork when pulling laundry bins in and out.

This Kohler Whitehaven Self Trimming apron front cast iron sink is not only a classic in design, but also a great size and depth for a laundry room sink.

One important detail was to run the countertops through to the window glass pane.  This was to maximize the feel of bringing the beautiful outdoor woods inside.

This family needed lots of coat hooks as well as shoe storage.  We added a shoe shelf with a bottom open area for boots.  The bottom open area has tile flooring run through so that it can also endure dirty boots.

This laundry room is designed to have lots of storage in the base cabinets as well as the wall uppers above the laundry room.

This bench with a single drawer is one of my favourite features in the laundry room.  It shows the authentic beauty of a live edge wood slab, reminding us that everything in nature is unique and beautiful designed.

Luxe Dining Room Design by Calgary and Kelowna Interior Designer

Natalie Fuglestveit Interior Design, Calgary and Kelowna Interior Designer, had an opportunity to design a luxe dining room.  This dining room features some beautiful elements including Phillip Jeffries Granite Stone Plata 1871 Mica Wallcovering , custom drapery made in a beautiful soft-white sateen fabric by JF Fabrics, and some amazing interior wall panelling and coffered ceiling detailing.  The furnishings include a modern and sleek dining table via RH Modern in walnut.  The design includes modern and sleek side dining chairs by SohoConcept as well as tall back custom-made tufted end chairs in a navy velvet fabric.  The velvet is a high-performance fabric that is perfect for regular use by family members & friends.  All furnishings were selected by NFID for both luxe aesthetics and practical daily use.

Adding a natural stone wallcovering above the wall panelling in the rooms not only made the space feel more glamorous, but also provide a beautiful texture finish to the walls.  By wrapping this entire room in a mica wallcovering, the dining room looks fantastic from all perspectives within the home.  Custom drapery panels is a much needed element in a room to help complete and dress windows.  These sateen side panels were custom made by NFID and have a sleek double euro pinch pleat and polished chrome drapery hardware to compliment the finish on the dining room light fixture.  The Hunter Douglas Silhouette window treatments also help provide a soft natural light that can infuse into the dining room during the day.

We love to include live plans in our designs and were happy to encourage our client to get a fiddle fig tree to put in the space.  Fiddle fig trees not only provide visual interest and natural beauty, but they can provide much needed height in corners as well

1920’s Great Gatsby Style Bedroom and Ensuite

The novel, The Great Gatsby, paints a picture of the roaring twenties.  A well-known era for flapper culture, jazz music, communications technology and the peak of art deco.  In addition, wide use of transportation began to be used in this era with automobiles and aviation usage booming.  NFID took pieces from this fun filled era when curating the design for this 1920’s Great Gatsby style bedroom and ensuite.  Resulting in filling both spaces with antique furniture and art giving a nod to the roaring twenties.

Bedroom

The bedroom showcases a mixture of light and dark hues, playfully contrasting one another throughout the space.  An antique white bed frame sits in the middle of the room.  The bedsheets are a mixture of grey, brown and black tones.  Euro Pillows with a fun art deco pattern sit on the back of the bed.  Along with a luggage toss cushion and custom made black and white striped pillows, that coordinate with the black and white striped Ikea throw blanket.

Additionally, custom-made drapery by NFID completes the contrast in the space.  With the drapery made with JF Fabrics black matte drapery hardware and charcoal brown stripe linen fabric.  The feature wall behind the bed features wallpaper by Andrew Martin. This wallpaper showcases blueprint drawings of different forms of transportation.  Reflecting back on the boom of automobile and aviation usage of the roaring twenties.

Antique items and art are seen throughout the space.  With Arteriors Home table lamps that complement the design of the room.  Giving the space a hint of industrial vibes. Furthermore, the antique clock and football give the space a twenties vibe.  A 1920’s tennis racquet art piece by Restoration Hardware further compliments the theme, along with the mustache print art piece on the wooden dresser. Tying together the Great Gatsby theme of the room.1920

Finer touches are further seen in the walk-in closet of the space, with the custom-made plaid classic roman shade in the window.Bathroom

Vintage art reflecting the roaring twenties is further seen in the bathroom.  With a collage hanging above the towels.  Black and white mosaic tiles on the floor and white subway tiles with a stacked pattern behind the sink.  With the epitome of the Great Gatsby theme seen in the antique brass light fixtures and faucet.  Successfully tying together this Great Gatsby design!
